General

Sounds Unlimited has been serving Danville, Virginia and the surrounding areas since 1978. With over four decades of experience, we've built a reputation as the region's most trusted source for professional audio and video installations.

We are based at 310 Old Riverside Drive, Danville, VA 24541 and serve the greater Danville area including Pittsylvania County, Caswell County (NC), Halifax, South Boston, Martinsville, and other surrounding communities. For larger commercial and church projects, we regularly travel throughout Virginia and North Carolina.

We specialize in four main areas:

  • Home Theater — Custom theater rooms, surround sound, media rooms, and whole-home audio
  • Car Audio & Video — Head units, amplifiers, subwoofers, speakers, and custom fabrication
  • Church AV Systems — Sound reinforcement, projection, live streaming, and stage lighting
  • Commercial Installations — Conference rooms, restaurants, retail, and office audio/video systems

Walk-ins are always welcome at our showroom for product questions, purchases, and quick consultations. For installations, we strongly recommend scheduling an appointment so we can reserve a bay and give your vehicle or project the proper time and attention it deserves. Call us at (434) 792-6717 to book a time.

Installation

It depends on the scope of the work:

  • Head unit swap — 1 to 2 hours
  • Speaker replacement — 1 to 3 hours depending on the vehicle
  • Amplifier and subwoofer install — 3 to 5 hours
  • Full system build — 1 to 3 days for custom work

We will always give you a time estimate before we begin so you can plan accordingly.

Yes, we can install customer-supplied equipment. However, please note that our labor warranty only covers work performed on products purchased through Sounds Unlimited. If a product you supply turns out to be defective or incompatible, additional labor charges may apply. We always recommend letting us source equipment so we can ensure compatibility and provide full warranty coverage.

Absolutely. All of our installations come with a lifetime labor warranty on work performed using products purchased from Sounds Unlimited. If anything comes loose, rattles, or has an issue related to our workmanship, we will fix it at no charge. Product warranties vary by manufacturer but we help facilitate any claims on your behalf.

Under the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a dealer cannot void your vehicle warranty simply because aftermarket equipment was installed. However, if a modification directly causes a failure, that specific repair might not be covered. Our experienced technicians take every precaution to install equipment safely and cleanly, using proper wiring harnesses and integration modules to protect your vehicle's factory systems.

Yes, we are happy to evaluate and work on systems installed by other shops or DIY setups. We frequently help customers who are experiencing issues with poorly installed equipment. We will assess the current state of the system, identify any problems, and recommend the best path forward whether that is a repair, upgrade, or fresh build.

Car Audio

In many cases, yes. Modern integration solutions like iDatalink Maestro, PAC, and Metra dash kits allow us to replace factory head units while retaining steering wheel controls, backup camera, climate info, and other factory features. Some vehicles with highly integrated infotainment systems may be better served by adding an amplifier, DSP, or speakers while keeping the factory screen. We will evaluate your specific vehicle and advise you on the best approach.

A DSP (Digital Signal Processor) is a device that takes the audio signal and fine-tunes it with precise equalization, time alignment, and crossover settings. It corrects for the acoustic challenges inside a vehicle cabin. If you are looking for the best possible sound quality, a DSP is one of the single most impactful upgrades you can make. It is especially valuable in vehicles where you are keeping the factory head unit, as it can overcome the limitations of the factory signal processing.

Yes, custom fabrication is one of our specialties. We build enclosures tailored to your specific vehicle and subwoofer for optimal bass response. We also do custom A-pillar pods, kick panels, amp racks, and other fabrication work. Whether you want a stealth build that preserves cargo space or a show-quality setup, our team has the skills to deliver.

Absolutely. This is one of our most popular upgrades. We offer aftermarket head units with wireless or wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto from brands like Kenwood, Alpine, Sony, and Pioneer. For some vehicles where you want to keep the factory screen, there are add-on modules that integrate CarPlay and Android Auto into the existing display. Come in and we will show you the options for your vehicle.

Church & Commercial

Yes, church AV is one of our core specialties. We have designed and installed systems for houses of worship of all sizes throughout the region. Our process includes an on-site acoustic assessment, system design consultation, professional installation, and thorough training for your volunteers and staff. We understand that every congregation has unique needs and budget considerations, and we tailor our solutions accordingly.

Absolutely. Since the growth of online services, live streaming has become essential for churches. We install complete streaming setups including PTZ cameras, video switchers, encoding hardware, projection systems, and LED walls. We can integrate your streaming solution with platforms like YouTube, Facebook Live, and dedicated church streaming services. We also provide training so your team can run everything confidently.

We serve a wide range of commercial clients including:

  • Restaurants and bars — Background music, outdoor speakers, and TV installations
  • Retail stores — In-store music systems and digital signage
  • Offices and conference rooms — Video conferencing, presentation systems, and boardroom AV
  • Fitness centers — High-energy sound systems built to handle demanding environments
  • Event venues — Stage sound, lighting, and portable PA systems

No project is too small or too large. We will work with you to develop a solution that fits your space and budget.

Yes, training is a standard part of every commercial and church installation. We believe the best system in the world is only as good as the people operating it. We walk your team through every component, create reference guides when needed, and are always just a phone call away if questions come up later. We want you to feel completely confident running your system from day one.
