Something Broke Before Sunday? Try This First.

Most Saturday-night emergencies are one of a handful of things. A volunteer can check all of these in fifteen minutes.

  1. Check mutes, mute groups, and scenes. On a digital mixer, a recalled scene or an engaged mute group can silence a whole set of channels at once. Look at the main fader and the mute-group buttons before anything else.
  2. Swap the cable. Move the dead mic to a known-good cable and a known-good input. If it comes back, the problem is the cable or the input, not the mic.
  3. Check wireless batteries and frequency. Fresh batteries in every pack, then confirm each pack and receiver are on the same channel. If a mic drops out in one part of the room, note where.
  4. Reboot in order. Power down amplifiers or powered speakers first, then the mixer, then the stream computer. Power back up in reverse: computer and mixer first, speakers last. That avoids a loud pop and clears most glitches.
  5. No sound on the stream only? Check that the encoder or OBS is receiving the board feed and that the stream-mix output isn't muted.

Still dead? Call us at (434) 792-6717. Tell us what you tried; it helps us narrow it down fast.

Church AV Problems We Fix

Feedback and hum

Squeals when the pastor walks forward, a low buzz that never goes away. Usually speaker or mic placement, gain structure, or a grounding problem. All findable.

Wireless mic dropouts

Interference, crowded frequencies, worn packs, or antennas in the wrong spot. We scan the room and set frequencies that work in your building.

Dead mixer channels

A channel, a bank of inputs, or a whole stage box that stopped passing signal. We find out whether it's the board, the snake, or the cabling.

Amplifiers and speakers

Speakers that crackle, cut out, or sound blown, and amps that shut down mid-service. We test each piece and tell you what's worth repairing.

Livestream audio missing or out of sync

A stream that's silent, sounds thin, or has lips and words that don't match. Usually the feed, the stream mix, or a delay setting.

Projector, display, and network problems

Washed-out projectors, displays that won't take a signal, and networks that drop the stream halfway through the sermon.

Systems We Didn't Install

Yes, we'll work on them. A lot of the church systems in Southside Virginia were installed by companies that are hours away, by a member who has since moved, or a piece at a time over twenty years. Nobody has a drawing of how it's wired. That's normal, and it's fixable.

The first step is an evaluation visit: we trace what's there, find the actual fault, and give you an honest recommendation, whether that's a repair, an upgrade, or leaving well enough alone. Our lifetime labor warranty covers work on gear purchased from us; if we repair equipment you already own, we'll explain up front what is and isn't covered.

Service Plans: Keep It Sunday-Ready

Many church sound emergencies were small problems for months before they were emergencies. A scheduled checkup catches them on a Tuesday instead of a Sunday.

Firmware and software

Mixer, wireless, and encoder updates applied and tested, with nothing changed the week before Easter.

Batteries and RF scan

Wireless packs checked, rechargeables tested, and the room scanned for new interference.

Cables and connectors

Every mic cable, stage box, and patch point checked; worn ones replaced before they crackle.

Speaker test

Each speaker and amp channel verified, so a dead driver doesn't hide behind the others.

Scene backup

Your mixer scenes and stream mix saved off the board, so a reset doesn't wipe out your setup.

Volunteer refresher

A short session for your sound and stream team, including whoever is new since last time.

Repair or Replace? An Honest Answer

Sometimes a "the sound system is shot" call ends with a $50 cable, a fresh set of batteries, or a mixer scene that got overwritten. We'd rather tell you that than sell you a system.

It's time to talk about replacing when the same problems keep coming back after repairs, when the wireless system runs on frequencies that are now crowded or no longer permitted, when parts for the mixer aren't available anymore, or when you're adding a livestream and the old analog board can't make a separate stream mix. If you get there, our church sound system cost guide lays out what new systems run, and the assessment for an upgrade is free. You can also see our full church AV installation packages.

Straight Answers

Do you charge for a service call?

Call (434) 792-6717 and we'll tell you up front what a visit to your church costs before anyone gets in the truck. Often we can narrow the problem down over the phone first, which can save you the trip. If you're considering an upgrade rather than a repair, the on-site assessment is free.

Will you come on a Saturday?

The shop is open Saturday 10–5, and Saturday is when a lot of churches find out something is wrong. Call as early as you can and we'll tell you honestly what we can do before Sunday.

Can you fix a sound system another company installed?

Yes. We regularly evaluate and work on systems installed by other companies or by volunteers. We'll assess what's there, find the problem, and recommend the best path: a repair, an upgrade, or, only if it's truly needed, a fresh build. Our lifetime labor warranty covers work on gear purchased from us.

Do you repair wireless microphones?

Yes. We troubleshoot wireless systems for dropouts, interference, dead packs, and receivers on frequencies that are now crowded or no longer legal to use. Sometimes the fix is a frequency scan and fresh batteries; sometimes a system is old enough that replacing it costs less than chasing problems. We'll tell you which. We're an authorized Shure dealer.

What's in a church AV service plan?

A scheduled checkup of the whole system: firmware updates, wireless batteries and an RF scan, cable and connector checks, a speaker test, a backup of your mixer scenes, and a refresher for your volunteers. Call us for current plan options and pricing.

Tell Us What's Wrong
