Car Audio Installation, The Way We've Done It Since 1978.

Sounds Unlimited opened in 1978 as a car audio shop, and we never lost the bug. CarPlay upgrades, subwoofers, amps, full custom builds — installed clean, tuned to your vehicle, and backed by a lifetime labor warranty. Right here on Old Riverside Drive in Danville.

Everything Between You and a Better Drive

You don't need a new car to love your commute again. A modern screen, speakers that don't buzz, bass you can feel — most of it takes a day in our bay, not a car payment.

Apple CarPlay & Android Auto

Your maps, music, calls, and texts on a real touchscreen — in the car you already own. We swap in a CarPlay or Android Auto head unit that looks like it came from the factory, so a ten-year-old truck feels current again.

Speakers & Amplifiers

Factory speakers are built to a price, and you can hear it. We install component and coaxial speakers from Focal, JL Audio, Hertz, and Kicker, with clean amplifier power behind them — so you hear the singer, not the door panel.

Subwoofer Installs

Bass you feel in your chest without rattling your license plate. We size the enclosure to your trunk or cab, match the sub to the amp, and wire it so it sounds tight — not boomy — from JL Audio, Rockford Fosgate, and Kicker.

DSP Tuning

A car is a terrible listening room — glass on one side, a door panel on the other. Digital signal processing lets us tune the system to your actual vehicle, so the music sits in front of you instead of coming from your left knee.

Custom Fabrication

Custom enclosures, amp racks, and stealth installs that look like the factory should have built them. If you want the trunk to still hold groceries, or want nobody to know the system is there, we build it that way.

Remote Starts & Marine Audio

A warm cab on a January morning is worth every penny. We also do marine audio that stands up to sun and spray, so the boat sounds as good as the truck that tows it.

What Car Audio Actually Costs

No mystery pricing. Here's the honest range of what folks spend with us, and every job starts with a free estimate. Financing is available through Synchrony if you want to spread it out.

Basic Upgrades — $300 to $800

A CarPlay or Android Auto head unit, a speaker swap, or both. This is the biggest bang-for-the-buck in car audio, and most of these installs are in and out the same day.

Mid-Range Systems — $800 to $2,000

Amplifier and subwoofer packages, component speakers, proper wiring throughout. This is where the system stops being an upgrade and starts being the reason you take the long way home. Typically about a day in the bay.

High-End & Custom — $2,000 to $5,000+

Full builds: DSP tuning, custom fabrication, multiple amps, show-quality finish work. These take longer — we'll quote the timeline along with the price before we touch a panel, so there are no surprises.

No, a New Stereo Won't Void Your Warranty

It's the question we hear most, so let's settle it. Federal law is on your side — and our work is, too.

The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act

Under this federal law, a dealer can't void your vehicle's warranty just because you installed aftermarket audio. They'd have to prove the specific part we installed actually caused the specific failure. A properly installed stereo doesn't do that.

Clean, Vehicle-Specific Work

We use vehicle-specific harnesses and integration parts instead of cutting into factory wiring wherever possible. Your car goes back together the way it came apart — no dangling wires, no rattles, no evidence except the sound.

Lifetime Labor Warranty

Buy your gear from us and our installation labor is warrantied for life. If something we installed ever comes loose or acts up, bring it back — we stand behind our work for as long as you own the vehicle.

Brands Worth Installing

We carry JL Audio, Focal, Kenwood, Alpine, Sony, Hertz, Rockford Fosgate, and Kicker — gear we'd put in our own trucks. Real product warranties from real manufacturers, installed by people who'll still be here next year.

The Shop That Started in a Dashboard

Before the church systems and the home theaters, Sounds Unlimited was a Danville car stereo shop. Nearly five decades and 2,500+ installations later, car audio is still the work we grew up on.

Family-Run, Not Franchise

We're a family business at 310 Old Riverside Drive, not a big-box install counter. The people who quote your job are the people who do your job — and who you'll see around town afterward.

Straight Answers

How much does car stereo installation cost in Danville, VA?

Basic upgrades like a CarPlay head unit or speaker swap typically run $300–800 with us. Mid-range systems with an amp and subwoofer run $800–2,000, and high-end custom builds run $2,000–5,000+. Every job starts with a free estimate, and financing is available through Synchrony.

Will an aftermarket stereo or subwoofer void my car's warranty?

No. Under the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a dealer can't void your vehicle's warranty just because you installed aftermarket audio — they'd have to prove the specific part caused a specific failure. We also use vehicle-specific harnesses instead of cutting factory wiring wherever possible, so your car stays factory-clean underneath.

Can I add Apple CarPlay or Android Auto to an older car?

In most vehicles, yes. We install a CarPlay or Android Auto head unit that fits your dash and factory controls, usually in the $300–800 basic upgrade range, and most of these installs are done the same day. Call us with your year, make, and model and we'll tell you exactly what fits.

How long does a car audio install take?

Most head unit and speaker installs are done the same day. An amp and subwoofer package typically takes about a day. Custom fabrication work takes longer, and we'll quote you a clear timeline along with the price before we start.

Do you do remote starts and marine audio too?

We do. Remote starts are one of the most-loved upgrades we install — especially come winter — and we build marine audio systems designed to handle sun, spray, and open water.

Is my installation guaranteed?

Gear you purchase from us comes with a lifetime warranty on our installation labor, on top of the manufacturer's product warranty. If anything we installed ever rattles loose or acts up, bring it back and we'll make it right.
